A bomb rumour triggered chaos at Kanpur's Chakeri airport on Friday afternoon, leading to tightened security measures and a two-hour-long investigation before the accused was arrested. Panic gripped the airport premises after officials received a call claiming a bomb was planted in a 72-seater aircraft.
The airport administration and security agencies sprang into action as soon as the threat was received. Comprehensive searches were carried out across the airport to eliminate any potential danger. The quick and coordinated response ensured the safety of all passengers and staff.
Interestingly, during the investigation, it was noted that 72-seater flights do not typically operate from Kanpur airport, casting early doubts on the credibility of the threat. Despite this, security forces thoroughly scanned the entire airport to rule out any risk.
Police swiftly registered a case at Chakeri police station and initiated an investigation. Using mobile surveillance technology, they tracked down the caller, identified as Mohit, and detained him within two hours of the initial call.
According to officials, the call was made around 12:30 PM directly to the Terminal Duty Cell at New Chakeri Airport. The matter immediately reached the Police Commissionerate of Kanpur Nagar, prompting the deployment of senior officers and a surveillance team for rapid action.
The accused is currently facing legal proceedings under relevant sections of the law, and authorities have assured strict action to deter such mischiefs in the future.
